The Weekend Australian magazine ran “The Great Escape” – an article focused on the background to Watson’s Pier.  It was great to be able to tell the story behind the book and how over many decades of my life it has come together.

I also hope the article sparks interest in a national conversation about the meaning of Gallipoli, how each soldier experiences war, and how each generation needs to re-imagine their own history.  It is also the first time that the official war historian Charles Bean’s letter to Watson has been referenced, correcting the history of the last moments on the beach at the Anzac battlefront.  see p.28
